Frictional behaviour of a greased contact under low sliding velocity condition

چکیده

In greased contacts, the complex rheology of a grease, depending on thickener, base oil and additives, becomes key point for understanding controlling evolution friction coefficient at extremely low sliding velocities. Such velocity range (from 0 to few mm/s) is main relevance several issues, such as unstable friction-induced vibrations, which can occur well in case lubricated interfaces. this paper, contact velocities then reproduced analysed dedicated tribometer, under controlled boundary conditions. Static dynamic coefficients, function velocity, are obtained, considering either dry contact, with both grease its oil. The effect DLC surface coating too. contributions lubricant components frictional response have been discussed, showing non-trivial trend friction, respect speed, within investigated range.

Stress Field at a Sliding Frictional Contact: Experiments and Calculations

Using a MEMS-based sensing device, we have measured the normal and tangential stress fields at the base of a rough elastomer layer in contact with a smooth glass cylinder in steady sliding. This geometry allows for a direct comparison between the stress profiles measured along the sliding direction and the predictions of an original exact bidimensional model of friction. The latter assumes Amon...

Onset of frictional sliding of rubber–glass contact under dry and lubricated conditions

Rubber friction is critical in many applications ranging from automotive tyres to cylinder seals. The process where a static rubber sample transitions to frictional sliding is particularly poorly understood. The experimental and simulation results in this paper show a completely different detachment process from the static situation to sliding motion under dry and lubricated conditions. The res...

Frictional melting of gabbro under extreme experimental conditions of normal stress, acceleration and sliding velocity

Understanding the physics of earthquake slip helps to improve seismic hazard predictions. The occurrence of quenched frictional melts along exhumed fault zones (pseudotachylytes) provides unequivocal evidence of ancient seismic slip along these faults [Sibson, 1975]. In order to better understand the evolution of friction (the ratio of shear stress over normal stress) during meltgenerating slip...

System identification of a beam with frictional contact

The nonlinear system becomes an area with numerous investigations over the past decades. The conventional modal analysis could not be  applied on nonlinear continuous system which makes it impossible to construct the reduced order models and obtain system response based on limited number of measurement points. Nonlinear normal modes provide a useful tool for extending modal analysis to nonlinea...

Deformation, structural changes and damage evolution in nanotwinned copper under repeated frictional contact sliding

Nanotwinned metals have the potential for use as structural materials by virtue of having a combination of high strength as well as reasonable ductility and damage tolerance. In the current study, the tribological response of nanotwinned copper has been characterized under conditions of repeated frictional sliding contact with a conical tip diamond indenter. Pure ultrafine-grained copper specim...
